About Art and Value

The medium ---
It's electric,
appears only if the plug is in the wall
and there is water behind the dam.

Fragile, ephemeral ... exists as digital code,
electromagnetic.
on a disk,
laser beamed,
cathode ray tubed,
illuminating the room,
illuminating me / you.

[ I pause and look again at my desktop version. ]

What is its substance?

Old Aristotle: “Imitation!”
Old Plato: “Imitation of imitation!”
Old Wayne: “Windows.”

First,
that open,
sometimes slowly,
with difficulty,
in the walls of my imagination.

One part of them is the nothing,
that is the empty space,the hole,
the opening;
and the other is what I see,
what appears to me.

What appears is not the glass,
like getting distracted
by your windshield when it is dirty,
 
it is
what appears to your imagination,
memory,
and fantasy,
when you use the window
to see outside,
sometimes,
far, far, into the within.

If that takes place for me,
and by me,
in mysterious ways
that have always left us musing
about the muses
then the value is infinite,
it takes us from the mud
to the lotus
and beyond.

If it takes place for the You,
the audience,
then they too
understand the lotus
who rises from the muck.

That’s jus’ fine ol’ granpawayne,
but you know what they say,
“Money talks,
and bullshit walks.”
